Purchasing a canvas tent is an investment in comfort and convenience. It is important to know how to clean a canvas tent so it will last for many years. Dust, dampness and other debris can shorten the lifespan of the fabrics and other materials. When properly maintained, your canvas tent will serve you for much longer. Canvas is a material that is different than polyester or many of the newer fabrics and it must be cared for differently. This guide will give you all the information that you need to do the job the right way and preserve the usability of your canvas tent. In this article, we will show how to clean canvas tent with full details guideline.

How do I clean or wash my tent?

Canvas is a resilient and sturdy fabric that is thicker than the polyester blends, but it is also subject to the effects of dust and water contamination. Mold and mildew develop quickly, particularly if the tent is put away damp or dirty with debris that can break down and lead to decay. We're going to show you in simple steps how to clean your tent, and how to wash it thoroughly. Here, you'll learn about caring for your tent properly in addition to the cleaning aspect of canvas tent maintenance. Canvas is a durable material that is also more expensive.

By observing some simple maintenance practices, and cleaning your canvas tent properly, there will be fewer issues to deal with later. We also discuss what to do if problems with your canvas develop. Cleaning and washing your tent is done in stages or steps. It may seem like a big job, but there are a few tricks and methods you can use to make the job faster and easier while being thorough. You'll only need a few tools from your household and a couple of cleaning products to complete the task. It won't take long, and it will be well worth the effort that you make.

How To Clean Canvas Tent

Remove Dust from Your Tent

Canvas materials collect dust, and the best way to remove it is to first shake the unfurled tent out to remove as much dust and debris as possible. Next, use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to go over all of the canvas fabric to remove the remaining dust. Vacuum inside and out.

Fungus and stains

Canvas is sturdy and resistant to stains, but any fabric is subject to absorbing liquids that cause staining. When fungus forms, it grows throughout the very fibers of the material and leads to staining and decay. Prevention is the first step to take, but if fungus or stains develop, there are simple steps you can take to solve the problem if it is discovered early and acted upon.

How can I prevent mold or mildew?

Keeping your tent clean and dry is the best way to prevent mold and mildew from forming. Even a slight amount of dampness can cause it. Mold and mildew spores thrive in moist conditions. When there is heat or humidity, the risks are increased, so it is best to keep your cleaned and dried tent stored in a cool and dry place when it is not in use.

Remove Stains from Your Tent

When your canvas tent becomes stained, it will need more than cleaning. It will need to be thoroughly washed. Depending on the size of your tent, you can either use a bathtub or a kiddie pool to do this. Place a small amount of water in the container, then put your tent that has been dusted and vacuumed inside. Use a mild detergent in liquid form and apply to all stained parts with a scrub brush or a sponge. Continue scrubbing until the stain is gone. Rinse the detergent off your tent with a hose or shower head. Thoroughly dry the tent before storing.

What do I do if my tent gets mold or mildew?

When you see mildew or mold, it's time to act quickly to prevent further damage. All the ingredients you need are in your kitchen. Combine 1/4 cup white wine vinegar with 1 cup of water and mix inside a clean spray bottle. Shake the solution to make sure it is mixed well. Lay the tent out on a clean surface and spray all of the areas affected by the solution. Allow the cleaner to stand on the tent for several minutes to loosen and kill the mold and mildew. Next, scrub the areas with a brush, washcloth or sponge and continue until all mold and mildew has been removed. Afterwards, fill the bottle with warm clean water and rinse the areas that have been treated and dry with a clean cloth.

Leaking

When the canvas on your tent rips, it causes leaking. The solution is to repair the problem as soon as you find it, to prevent it from becoming bigger. Make sure that the material around the damaged area is clean and dry. Smooth the canvas and apply repair tape to the ripped area on the inside and the outside. It should completely cover the rip/hole. Smooth the tape down and apply a coat of seam sealer to the tape edges on both the inside and the outside. Allow to dry.

Zippers

Zippers also need to be maintained. Inspect before and after every use to make sure that they are in good working order. Check the seams for any fraying or signs of separation. You should always keep the zippers of your tent dry so the metal parts do not rust.

Tent Safety and precautions

Whether you are an adult or a child who is going away on a camping adventure, it's important to know about the dangers associated with camping in a tent, and how to prevent accidents and injury. To protect yourself and others, here are the recommended safety precautions you should take.

Before Camping, Inspect the Site Thoroughly

You want to choose the safest and most comfortable location to set your tent. Before pitching, inspect the area to make sure that there aren't any hazards nearby. This includes poison ivy, wasps nests or other beehives, poison oak, anthills or other dangers. It should not be too close to a cliff or to a stream that could unexpectedly rise while you're sleeping.

Carry a First Aid Kit

You should always carry a first aid kit with you when camping or traveling. Camping exposes you to hazards that are natural to the environment you will be in. You could become injured or bitten by insects. Your first aid kit must contain bug repellent, bandages, antiseptics, insect spray, calamine lotion, tweezers and the recommended strength of sunscreen to protect you from UV rays.

Carry Emergency Supplies

While you are away from camp, there are a few emergency supplies that you should carry with you in case you get lost. These supplies can save your life in a survival situation. A whistle is useful for letting people know where you are if you are lost. Extra clothing will come in handy if you get wet. A fire starting kit can help in building a fire for warmth at night to prevent hypothermia. Aluminum foil on the underside of your shoes will leave strong tracks that can be followed. Other items that are useful include high energy granola bars, a map, compass, and torch in case you're caught out in the dark.

Never Leave the Camping Tent Open when You are Sleeping or Away

There are a few reasons why you should always keep your tent closed when you are away or asleep. It doesn't take long for an intruder, a snake or insects to get into your tent.

Keep the Tent and Camp Site Clean

Leaving your campsite messy with litter or open food is an invitation for predators and pests to invade. Keep your camp clean, tidy and free of food items, so you don't attract bears, ants or other unwelcomed guests to camp.

Notify Someone Before Venturing Out

You should always let people know before you strike out on a trail. It's best to go with another member of camp instead of venturing out alone, but if you do, let other members of the camp know where you're going and when you intend to be back. If something happens, they will know where to look for you. If you realize that you are lost, stay in one place and use your whistle to let the others know where you are.

Wash Your Hands Often

When out in the wilderness you are apt to come into contact with germs that can make you or others sick. Washing your hands often can help to protect your health and the health of those that are in camp as well. Be especially careful to wash them after using the restroom and before and after handling food.

Stay Away from Unknown Plants and Wild Berries

You should learn about which plants are poisonous and which are safe. This especially applies to wild berries. Do not eat any wild berries that you find because they could be poisonous. Don't' even touch a plant unless you are certain that it is safe.

Pitch the Tent a Safe Distance from the Camp Fire

You should always set up your tent in a place that is far enough from the camp fire that the embers won't catch it on fire. Start your camp fires a safe distance away to prevent accidents. Campfires should be extinguished before leaving the campsite or before going to sleep for the night.

Preventative Maintenance

It is far better to prevent damage and injury than it is to try to fix the problems. By following the tips that we've provided, you can keep your canvas tent in excellent condition so you can rely on this valuable survival and comfort resource while camping. The safety tips included can help you to prevent injury or illness while on your trip as well.

Conclusion

Keeping your canvas tent clean and dry will make it last longer and remain a reliable resource when you need it. Preventing damage is usually easier than fixing it. It isn't difficult to maintain a canvas tent, and if problems do occur, there are easy fixes to apply if they are discovered and acted upon early.

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, then a secure tent is a great way to have fun. This goes a long way to improve your outdoor experience. From a day at the beach to camping and even festivals, tents provide good shelter from harsh weather conditions. However, research has shown that high winds are the most destructive natural force against a tent. When not well secured, high winds can shatter, collapse or blow away your tent. This article will show you how to secure a tent in high winds.

Ways to Storm & Weatherproof your Tent

There are several ways you can secure your tent against the weather and storms. When you take these precautions, you can be sure of having a tent that will withstand most storms.

Set Your Tent Up Properly

This seems like a very simple step but it is easily the most ignored. Most people just go ahead to set up a tent their own way without following instructions. Every tent has a unique design and comes with a set of instructions on how to set up. Make sure you follow all the recommended options. Here are a few things to make sure of

  • Make sure you use all the poles provided
  • Make sure you use all the guy ropes and all the peg holes in your tent
  • Make sure pegs are driven into the ground at a 450 angle.
  • Make sure the guy ropes are not too close to the base of the tent.
  • If your tent has a fly, make sure you tie them to the poles. Some come with Velcro straps. Make sure you use them.
Set Up in a Sheltered Spot

Instead of open space, try to set up your tent under of close to a shelter. When you set up in a sheltered spot, it can act as a windbreaker and protect your tent from dangerous winds.

Use Extra Guy Ropes and Pegs

Guy ropes and pegs are used to secure your tent to the ground. They help ease the tension on your tent. Make sure you use all the ropes provided. Also, use more ropes and peg as the more you use, the better security your tent has

Awnings / Verandahs

Most tents come with an option to cover/zip up the front awning or veranda. If you have this option, use it. This will prevent the wind from getting under your tent and lifting it away.

Put a Tarp Over Your Entire Tent!

Tarps are very strong and waterproof. Get an industrially sized tarp and secure it over your tent. This will make your tent stronger and also waterproof.

Dig a Trench Around Your Tent

A trench is a good way to protect your tent against rainfall and flooding. Dig a trench around your tent so that water is directed into the trench instead of your tent.

Add Anti-Sink Pole Plates:

Unless you are setting up your tent on cement, make sure you use pole plates. It can be a recycled piece of wood maybe from an old table. The purpose is to keep your poles from sinking into the ground. You can also use them if you don’t want the poles to make marks on the ground.

Remove the Sidewalls

When high winds are expected, we advise that you remove the side walls. This will reduce the wind pressure on the tent. The will pass through the tent instead of knocking out the poles.

Tricks for keeping the tent stable in wind

Tents can get a bit shaky during high winds. Here a few tips to help you keep your tent stable.

  • l Point your tent towards the wind. This will prevent the wind from hammering down on your tent from one side.
  • l Make sure your tent is drum tight when you set it up
  • l Use all the peg points
  • l Use as many guy ropes as you can.You can heap stones around poles and pegs for extra support.
  • l If the wind breaks a pole, use a splint/ flat piece of wood and tie the two pieces very firmly together. This should restore the broken support.

Here are a few more tricks to consider.

Campsite Selection

Selecting a campsite is very important. It will go a long way in deciding your overall experience while camping. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • l Pick a sit close to a water source. This is very important to have fresh drinking water.
  • l Pick a fairly level ground. This will make setting up your tent easier.
  • l Pick somewhere with limited hazards.
  •  l Pick somewhere sheltered. Avoid staying directly under trees or rocks that come collapse.

Pick a place without serious high winds.

Wind and rain strategies

Wind and rain combine for the biggest problems for tents. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • To deal with wind, look for sheltered spots like behind a hill or a group of trees. This will break the wind for you.
  • Avoid fallen tree trunks or debris that can be blown to destroy your tent.
  • Make sure the side of the strongest pole structure is the side facing the wind. As an alternative, make the smallest side face the wind to reduce resistance.
  • Set your tent on higher and dryer ground. The will prevent rain from collecting in your tent as water usually flows downward.
  • Tent doors should not face the direction of rain.
  • Use trenches to redirect rainwater away from the tent

Stakeout tactics:

  • Depending on the type of soil, your stake may give a stronger hold if you drive it into the ground vertically.
  • Don’t bury the entire stake in the ground. Make sure you leave no room for a tie-down cord.
  • If the ground is hard, use a rock or hammer to push down your stake. Make sure you have extra stakes just in case.
  • For sandy or snowy environments, make sure you bring sand/snow anchors.

Rainfly wraps

For your rainfly wraps, a Velcro strap is usually attached to them underneath. Use these straps and tie the rainfly to the poles of the tent. This will help strengthen your tent.

BE AWARE OF THE SIGNS OF WEATHER forecast

Like we said in the beginning, the wind is a big tent enemy. Before you set out for camping, make sure you know the wind forecast for the day. While the tips here can help you keep your tent in high winds, every tent has its wind limit. So make sure you have an idea of what the wind will be like before setting out.

Conclusion

A tent is an essential tool for most outdoor activities. It is important to know, not just how to set it up, but also how to navigate certain weather. This article has provided tips on how to secure your tent in high winds s that you can make the most out of your outdoor time.

How to stay hydrated without drinking water? This is one of the most discussed topics around today. You will not have any trouble in finding members addressing this question in online health forums.

Did you know the weather has an impact on your body? When the temperature rises, your body will adjust to stay balanced and cool. This is why it is imperative for you to stay hydrated. Staying hydrated will help maintain that critical balance. Proper hydration will also ensure that your body functions well throughout the day.

How Much Water do We Really Need?

According to many intensive health studies (conducted by The Mayo Clinic and many others), you body is approximately 60% water. Please keep in mind that you lose water throughout the day via perspiration and urinating. To be honest, there are many opinions on how much water you should drink every day. Many health experts believe that you should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day to stay properly hydrated. This is commonly known as the 8x8 rule. However, it’s important to mention that some health experts believe that you should sip on water throughout the day.

What are the Symptoms of Chronic Dehydration?

Many people are unaware that they can become chronically dehydrated if they don’t take in enough water. Chronic dehydration has the following symptoms: insomnia, difficulty in concentrating, mild or severe joint pain, and lack of mental clarity. In some instances, depression and anxiety has been linked to chronic dehydration.

Foods and Drinks with High-Water Content

Some people hate drinking plain water, or they haven’t formed the habit of drinking it throughout the day. How to stay hydrated without drinking water? Fortunately, most of the water we consume comes from food. The following liquids and foods have high-water content. Let’s take a close look at them.

The cucumber has the highest-water content of any solid food. Filled with essential oils, the cucumber is also versatile. You can add it to your salads and smoothies. You can also turn to it when you need a quick snack.

Cucumber

Celery

Strawberries

Strawberries are refreshing and filled with nutrients.

Strawberry

Watermelon

Besides being a rich source of vitamin C, one cup of sliced watermelon is about 92% water.

Watermelon

You cannot go wrong with skim milk. Skim milk is 87% water.

Sports drinks offer an adequate amount of water. They can increase your energy level with ease. I enjoy drinking sports drinks after a hard workout at the gym.

How to stay hydrated without drinking water? As you can see, you have many options when it comes to staying hydrated throughout the day. Let’s cover some other important points that you should keep in mind.

Avoid Carb-Heavy Snacks

You should resist the temptation of adding carb-heavy snacks to your daily diet. They are delicious, but they are notorious for depleting your body of the water it needs to function well.

  • check
Pile on the Salads As I stated earlier, lettuce is a good source for water. Make certain you eat a salad daily. You can use iceberg lettuce or romaine lettuce. However, I prefer romaine lettuce. Romaine lettuce has more nutrients.
  • check
Take Advantage of the Summer Season You should not hesitate to take advantage of the summer season. Certain fruits and vegetables grow during the summer season. For example, watermelons are in abundance during the summer time. As I stated earlier, watermelons can help you stay hydrated during a hot day.
  • check
Make Oatmeal a Special Part of Your Day You can get your day off to a great start by simply having a bowl of delicious oatmeal. Add a few slices or bananas to enhance the flavor. I personally add cinnamon to my oatmeal. Just give it a try!
  • check
Don’t Overlook Soup How to stay hydrated without drinking water? Well, you can have a nice bowl of soup. Simply have a delicious bowl of soup when you begin to feel dehydrated.
  • check
Try Cream for a Change  Cream is normally overlooked when it comes to discussing high-water content foods. Lapping up cream like a cat is a big game changer when it comes to helping your body stay hydrated.
  • check
Sip on Flavored Unsweetened Teas You can sip on flavored unsweetened teas in the morning, afternoon, and late in the evening. Make certain you buy unsweetened teas. Sweet teas have too much sugar. I must say that lemon unsweetened tea is one of the most popular flavors around today. How can you go wrong with unsweetened lemon flavored tea?
  • check
Chill Out with a Frozen Dessert The temperature during the summer months can be unbearable. Cool off with a frozen dessert.

Final Words

It’s vital for you to take measures that can help you stay hydrated during the day. How to stay hydrated without drinking water? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that drinking water can help you stay hydrated, but you can turn to foods that are high in water content if you are not fond of water. The foods and drinks listed above can help your body stay hydrated and balances without any problems. I guess there is some truth to the old saying, “You are what you eat”.

Our dogs are our best friends, and for many of us, there are very few places we go without them. If camping is one of your favourite pastimes, why not consider bringing your dog along with you? The vast majority of campsites are very welcoming to dogs, and they are sure to have an amazing time hiking with you, exploring the area, and picking up amazing new smells. If you are preparing to trek into the wide world with your faithful companion, you are going to want to remember these five key factors before (and during) your trip.

#1 The Importance of Pet Insurance

Pet insurance is a massive must when you are camping, because you can’t predict what will and will not happen on your trip. Before you depart, you should take your dog to the vet to have them checked over, as well as get any necessary vaccinations that they might need before you go. It also gives you the chance to flea treat and worm them so that they don’t get diseases from parasites.

None of us like the idea of our dog getting hurt, but it can and does happen, so you need to be prepared. Pet insurance means that if your dog is bitten by a snake (or other animal), or generally injured through a fall or accident, you will be able to get emergency treatment even if you have no money on you at the time.

Before you, you should advise your pet insurance company that you will be going camping with your dog so that they can give you any advice, but also so that they can pre-authorise any potential treatment that would be needed in an emergency. There are very few pet insurance companies that will not cover things like this, but checking first is always a sensible choice.

#2 Get Your Dog Kitted Out

You should make sure that your dog has everything he needs before you head out, and that includes making a little checklist of the essentials. You will need to bring food and water bowls, preferably ones that are portable, as well as food and water for them to eat and drink over the course of the trip. You should also stock up on treats and chews to reward them for good behaviour and keep them occupied.

Dog beds are also an essential, because your dog should be comfortable when they are sleeping or relaxing. Something lightweight and easy to set up is an absolute must, and it should also pack up nicely in the car on the way there and back. You also need to decide if they are sleeping inside or outside the tent, and if it is the latter, a pen needs to be set up that they are safe, secure, and comfortable in.

A good selection of toys is also the best way to entertain your canine companion while on your travels. Especially in the evening, or just before bed when they might start feeling a little restless. Within their essentials kit, you should also make sure that you remember to pack any medication that they need or are taking so that they can stick to their routine as much as possible. You may also want to bring a muzzle with you, even if your dog is not aggressive, in case of emergency or to stop them from eating strange things off the ground.

#3 Create a Pet First Aid Kit

Aside from any medication your dog takes, and your human first aid kit, a pet one is absolutely necessary when you are out camping. Here’s a quick list of what it should contain:

  • Bandages
  • Scissors
  • Disinfectant rub
  • Tweezers
  • Tick remover
  • Boots/socks
  • Emergency blanket to treat shock/cold
  • Emergency vet contact numbers

These basic items could be what saves your dog in an unfortunate accident. You should always have a list of the vets that are closest to your destination, as well as their number so that you can call if anything happens to them.

#4 Make Sure Your Dog is Secure at all Times

Your dog will need a sturdy collar and lead, or a harness, while they are on the site as well as hiking. You should keep them secure and close to you at all times – both for their safety and the wildlife around them. Preferably, the collar and lead will have reflective strips, or the harness if you choose one of those instead. This will help them to be seen at dusk or if they manage to escape.

#5 Practise Good Etiquette at the Campsite

While you are at the campsite, it is important to respect those around you, and the fact that they may not want a dog lurking around their site. You should keep them with you at all times and prevent them from wandering around and introducing themselves to other people. You must pick up their poo, and you should never leave them at the site unattended; for their safety and that of others.

Good etiquette is the first rule of camping, no matter where you are, and saying hello to your neighbours is a great way to create friendships, as well as a community that looks out for each other. They may even like your dog coming to say hello, but you should always ask first and at least get to know the other campers a little first.

To Conclude

Hopefully, you are now prepared to enter the world of camping with your pooch. All you really need to remember is that they should be insured, have a vet visit before they leave, and be secure and well-trained. These simple factors will allow you to have a peaceful trip with very little stress. You also need to ensure your dog is comfortable too, with good bedding and portable dishes so that they can stop for a drink while hiking. All of these little things build up into a camping trip that neither of you will forget, and dog owner has all the gear you need to get them started.

Hiking is an enjoyable sport that can improve your health and fitness. Although it is a low-impact kind of exercise, you may still have knee pain while hiking. If you have arthritis or other joint problems, the chances are higher. It's important to know the cause of your knee pain and how to treat it. Research shows that there are effective ways to lessen this pain and we'll tell you how.

Probable Cause of Knee Pain While Hiking

Knee pain can be caused by a few different conditions including:

  • Injury to the knee including strains and tears to the cartilage
  • Osteoarthritis which is from wear and tear
  • Rheumatoid arthritis that causes inflammation to the joints
  • Other joint conditions

The key to figuring out how to best treat and avoid knee pain is to determine the cause. Your doctor is the best resource for doing this. In some cases, medical treatment including surgery or injections are needed. In less extreme cases, there are things you can do at home to control knee pain. Once you have a diagnosis, you are better able to manage the pain without ending your hiking days.

Preventing Knee Problems

Knee pain while hiking is a common symptom. Anything that puts extra weight on the knee can cause pain and soreness. Wearing the wrong shoes, carrying a heavy backpack, rock climbing and being careless on the trail can also lead to pain. Here are some things you can do to prevent experiencing knee pain on your hike.

Use a hiking stick

A sturdy hiking stick can help to lessen the impact on your knees. Use the stick to shift your weight onto as you walk. This moves the stress from the knees to the stick. It also helps to give you better balance, so you don't fall.

hiking-stick
Take your time

When you're in a hurry, the odds of getting hurt go up. Hiking slowly lets you enjoy the scenery and makes you less likely to trip and fall. Accidental missteps can cause you to twist at the knee. Knee twists are one cause of tissue injury and knee pain you can avoid.

Wear the right shoes

Choosing the right shoes is one of the basics for preventing knee pain while hiking. Ill-fitting shoes put you off balance and make hiking uncomfortable. You may wish to trade your heavy hiking boots for a pair of lighter hiking shoes. Make sure they fit perfectly and give foot and ankle support where it's needed.

Stay hydrated

Drink pure clean water to stay hydrated on your hike. This helps to keep your body and especially your joints working their best. Dehydration can cause muscles to spasm.

Reduce backpack weight

Carrying a heavy backpack puts more strain on your delicate knee tissues. Take what you need, but keep your backpack as light as you can to protect your knees and ankles. Heavy packs are known to lead to injury from stress and strain.

Use a knee brace

Wearing a knee brace will help to protect your knees from injury. It can also lessen inflammation and give you relief from knee pain while hiking.

knee-pain-while-hiking
Use care walking downhill

Using walking poles can help you to pace yourself going downhill. It's easy to trip or twist a leg moving downwards with a pack. The weight pushes you faster, so you need to be careful and watch where you step.

Avoid jumping

Jumping from one rock to another can be tempting, but don't do it. If your knee is sensitive, any leaping or jumping could set off a round of pain and discomfort. Avoid jumping, leaping or doing any activities that could cause inflammation or impact on the knees.

How to Treat Hikers Knee

After you've finished your hike, you may be dealing with knee pain. The walk may have made your muscles feel tight and sore. Pain and stiffness are common symptoms after this kind of exercise. You can treat the discomfort of hiker’s knee by doing the following:

According to the Occupational Safety Hazard Administration (OSHA), there's more cutting incidents at the workplace than reported. In 2004, an employee in California had to deal with the horrific pain to her wrist and forearm because of a "slip" with a box cutter while working on the production line. Cutting into a box from right to left, the box cutter became "caught on something inside the box." Box Cutter Safety Tips to Follow While Using a Box Cutter

Shorten the blade

By shortening the blade, you can reduce the risk of injury. Long blades are riskier to use because of the length. Trimming the blade will reduce the risk of lacerations on the surface of the skin.

Cut At An Angle From Your Body

Always point away from body and face. One of the basic rule is work your hand with the blade "horizontal and outward. Do not do a vertical plane, you should go left right or vice versa. Avoid working with others so no one interferes with you while working with a blade, knife, or box cutter.

Retract Fully When Not in Use

Retract the blade or box cutter if you aren't using it. You don't want anyone to get into your tool box and put their hand in it only to find out you left you box cutter open. Practicing safety while using knives should be a main priority. It may be a good idea to pay extra attention to the common practices on how to use utility knives safely. For instance, when you use a knife for work or need to use it as a tool for a home project, make sure its sharp and not dull, rusted, or too old to use. Because of such wear and tear on a blade, it can cause the most horrific pain which comes with lacerations.

Wear gloves

Wearing gloves is one of the most basic safety wear equipment you can use when cutting. This is another box cutter's safety tip which has saved many fingers and/or lacerations. You will get away with a slip when you ware gloves. In fact, when you wear safety gear remember them. They are made strictly to prevent sharp objects such as blades. When you get "cut-resistant gloves and sleeves," they can prevent you from any slippage blades.

Work on a Stable Surface

Work on a stable surface or table, will not move or "wobble" when utilizing a tool such as a box cutter on surface area. This will reduce box cutter accidents such as "knicking" you hand of thumb.

Know The Laws of Using Box Cutters Safely

By remembering the high-risk of injuries to people while they use box-cutters or knives, then here's another box cutter safety tip which shouldn't go unnoticed. It's important to keep the rules and laws of using box cutters in mind all the time you use them. Any construction company as an industry leader will train their employees how to use the tool properly. If its deemed high risk for injury by the standards of OSHA, it's the company's responsibility to train their workers on the safety tips for box cutters and knives immediately.

One thing to know is everything about your box cutter or knife that you use in the industry. Know the in's and out's of the tool. The one you pick is the one you want to know all about. The abilties it has, you may not need them, or you may but may not know how to use those tools to its fullest potential. Therefore, when buying these box cutters or knives for yourself, or for your workers, know the laws of the box cutters, and train your employees how to use them properly while having a safety meeting.

The Last Resort: First Aid for Emergency

It's important to have a first aid kit nearby your work station or at home. When you have to resort to the first aid kit because you accidentally cut your thumb or finger, retrieving it shouldn't be difficult. Keep your employees informed when it comes to first aid and emergency scenarios. It can save theirs or their coworkers lives. Besides a first aid kit, you should have all employees trained properly when they have to use any type of risky equipment or tool. Additional first-aid kits can be offered at multi-work sites since there may be a need for multiple kits for more workers.

These items are included in every first-aid kit, according to the Department of Labor and Statistics of America:

  • Gauze pads (at least 4 x 4 inches).
  • 2 large gauze pads
  • Box adhesive bandages
  • One gauze bandage (2 in. wide)
  • 2 bandages (triangular)
  • Cleaning agents such as sealed towelettes.
  • Tweezers and scissors
  • Splint
  • Adhesive tape and 2 elastic wraps
  • Equipment for resuscitation: bag or pocket mask
  • A blanket
  • Instructions on emergency assistance requests

Cleaning The Wound With Your Kit's Contents

All in all, you should be able to clean a wound with your custom first aid kit. You should be able to give yourself, or someone else, the proper first aid while you wait for the medics to show up if you've called 911. In fact, it isn't a good idea to use knives and cutters on objects that are too thick for the tool to cut into. In other words, you shouldn't "force apply pressure" onto the object you're cutting into because if this happens, then a blade can break.

It can also cause you to have an increased chance of hurting yourself as you are working with a utility tool. Then, it can make the object you are cutting slip, or move a little. As a result of this movement, this random chain of events can cause your hand to slip towards the knife, thus, cutting yourself.

Have you ever thought about learning how to ride a hoverboard? Surely you've seen other people do it and it looks easy enough, right? Of course, you have to remember that riding a surfboard or skateboard looks fairly easy too, at least for people that know what they're doing. That being said, if you're interested in learning more, why not start that learning process right now?

What is a Hoverboard? Why is it Fun to Ride?

In short, a hoverboard is exactly what it sounds like it is. It's like a more high-tech form of a skateboard that doesn't need wheels in order to operate. Just like the name implies, it really does hover a few inches above the ground and you can ride it just like a skateboard, only it feels like you're riding on a cushion of air instead of getting jostled by those little urethane wheels that are going around and around over a rough surface. That's precisely why it's so much fun to ride. It's just like it appears in the movie Back to the Future. It gives you a chance to enjoy something different that's challenging and fun at the same time. When you put all of that together, it's something you can spend a whole afternoon doing without getting tired of. It really is that much fun.

How Does it Work?

It actually works by creating a cushion of air that it is capable of operating on. When you turn it on, it uses that cushion to elevate itself a few inches off the ground and it supports both its weight and your own when you're riding. It's a very high-tech version of entertainment and there's a great deal of things involved in its operation that would take a physics expert to explain or understand. That being said, it operates on the exact same principle as the hovercraft that the military uses. These are vehicles that can be used on land or in the water because they don't actually travel over either one. In fact, they travel on a giant cushion of air. It's the same with the hoverboard, only on a much smaller scale.

A Hoverboard is Not a Skateboard

Remember, it was mentioned earlier that a hoverboard is like a high-tech version of a skateboard but it's important to remember that it is not a skateboard in and of itself. These are two very different products that operate in two different manners. A skateboard makes contact with the earth and a hoverboard doesn't. Even if you're used to riding a skateboard, it's still going to take some time to master that hoverboard.

Put Your First Foot on The Hoverboard

If you're looking for information about how to ride one, the first thing you have to do is successfully get on. Remember, it operates on a cushion of air so it's going to move slightly whenever you touch it. You can start by carefully positioning your first foot onto the hoverboard while maintaining contact with the ground with your other foot. Do so slowly and methodically. Don't jump on it or you're liable to find herself face-first in the dirt.

Carefully Place Your Second Foot On

You have to be more careful here than you were with your first foot because now your full weight is resting completely on the hoverboard and until you master it, you're basically at its mercy. Being able to maintain your balance will depend a great deal on foot placement so make sure you get your feet in the right spot and that you have a comfortable stance before you do anything else.

The Hoverboard Turning Technique

Learning how to turn the hoverboard is one of the most important things you are going to do but before you get to that point, there are a few other things you have to learn first. It's kind of like learning to walk. You can't walk until you crawl and you can't run until you walk. It really is like learning how to do something completely new with baby steps because it's something you've never done before. First and foremost, learn how to stand comfortably on the hoverboard and practice getting on and off a few times. Once you've mastered that, you can move on to the next step in getting ready to learn how to turn it.

It's almost impossible to learn how to turn a hoverboard without first learning how to do something simple like going forward and backward, left and right. You'll do this by slightly shifting your weight. You want to be sure that the hoverboard is engaged and that it's turned on and the rest of it will come with the way that you place your weight on the board itself. In this case, it's actually quite a bit like a skateboard even though it's definitely not a skateboard. When you want to move forward, shift your weight forward slightly and do the same thing to move backward. When you want to go left, shift your weight to the left and shift your weight to the right when you want to go in that direction.

Practice doing this several times, especially turning left and right. This will serve as the basis for learning how to turn in circles and spin the hoverboard later on. As always, be careful of uneven terrain. If you start going too fast and you're not paying attention, you may not be able to avoid a sudden rise in the terrain and you definitely don't want to smash into it going at top speed. Until you master things, go slowly and always pay attention to your surroundings.

Once you've gotten the hang of things in the above paragraph, you can learn how to spin the hoverboard. If you've ever spent time on the playground spinning around on a tire swing, then you already know how to spin the hoverboard. The idea is to build up your momentum and then shift your weight quickly but safely in one direction, holding your body in much the same way that an ice skater would hold theirs when they're spinning around on the ice. This is a movement that takes some time to perfect and the best way to do it is to go slowly at first and then gradually build up your speed. As always, be careful not to go too fast and watch what's going on around you.

Wear Your Hoverboard Safety Gear

Obviously, you don't want to ride a hoverboard or do anything else that's potentially dangerous without wearing the right types of gear. Doing so is just asking for trouble and if you do it enough times, you're probably going to find it. People get in the habit of thinking they don't have to use safety gear because they got away with it once or twice and nothing happened. That's great, but understand that if you don't wear the proper gear, the first time you fall off your hoverboard or you crash it, you could end up with some potentially serious injuries. It's just not worth taking the risk when there are all kinds of safety gear available out there that can help you stay safe even when the unexpected happens.

Exactly What Types of Safety Gear Should You Be Using?

For the most part, it's the same type of stuff that you would expect to wear when you're riding a skateboard or as far as most of it is concerned, even a bicycle. You definitely need a helmet but you also need a few more things as well. Plan on wearing pads that protect your knees and elbows. It's also a good idea to wear some wrist guards because if you do fall off, the first thing you're likely to do is throw your hands out to try to support yourself and you don't want to end up breaking your wrist.

One thing that most people don't think about is a tailbone protector but it's important to wear something that can protect you because you might otherwise end up with a very sore tailbone, especially when you're learning how to ride and you're falling off every time you turn around.

Conclusion

There you have it, that's everything you need to safely ride a hoverboard. They are a lot of fun but they can be dangerous, just like anything else that’s not properly used. Remember that skateboards and bicycles can be dangerous, too. It's all about learning how to use it properly and using common sense when you ride. Take things slowly and you'll learn how to enjoy your hoverboard without ending up with a lot of broken bones in the process.

One of the biggest complaints from tent campers is not being able to get comfortable. Sleeping bags provide little padding from the hard cold ground. Air mattresses often lose air and camp pads can be too flat for some people. The best solution to these problems is a camp cot. I this article i will explain what is a camp cot and camp cot faq's.

What is A Camp Cot?

A camp cot is a portable bed. They are usually made of a metal frame with folding legs. Strong material, such as heavy canvas is stretched over the frame to made a firm bed when it's set up. The concept goes all the way back to the times of the Romans when their ancient army moved from one territory to another. In more recent times, camp cots were used to provide instant beds for military personnel because they are easily folded into a compact size, and they can be set up in a few seconds.

They're also used in emergency shelters by the Red Cross, to house victims of natural disasters. These beds are also lightweight and easy to transport from one location to another. For decades, they have been used by tent campers to provide a more comfortable place to sleep because they are so easy to set up and take down as needed.

Camp cots have been around in some form for centuries, but they have been improved for greater durability and comfort throughout the decades. Manufacturers compete with new and enhanced models with useful features that are usually geared towards outdoors recreational activities.

Camping Cot For Two- Extra Wide

At camping cot for two is more commonly known as a double camping cot. There are quite a few different models available. They are large enough for two people to sleep comfortably on. Because the weight is doubled, they are built with reinforcements in the frame and very strong materials. The kinds of double camping cots on the market range from larger frames with a thin cover to those that come with padding that resembles a smaller version of a bed mattress. Some campers use these larger sized camp cots as beds for two to three small children and sometimes more.

Why Should I Use Heavy Duty Camping Cot?

A heavy duty camping cot is a good choice for anyone whether you're 65 pounds or 400 pounds. The reason for this is that they are built to be strong and more durable. The materials feature reinforced seams that are designed to hold up under a heavy load. The more light weight versions are more vulnerable to tearing and damage to the frame. A heavy duty camping cot may be the last cot that you'll ever need to buy. This saves the expense of replacement and the hassle of a cot breaking on you in the middle of the night.

What Should I Consider Before Buying a Camping Cot?

There are several things to consider. The first is the size and the weight capacity. Make sure that the cot is wide enough and long enough so it fits the person that will be using it. Heavy duty is recommended to ensure that the weight capacity is high enough if people of different sizes and weight will be using it. Also, consider the durability. Make sure that the cot is made of strong and durable fabrics with reinforced stitching.

Also ensure that the frame is made of strong materials. In addition, choose the type that offers the features that you want in a camp cot. This includes ease of setup and take down, weight when folded up and other useful features such as built in cup holders, etc.

Why Do I Need One? How Portable Are They?

Anyone can benefit from owning a camp cot. They are good for elevating tent campers off the ground for a more comfortable night's sleep. They are also useful to have on hand for unexpected overnight guests. They make handy instant beds and don't take up much space. They're temporary and can be folded up into a compact size quickly when they're not being used. Most camp cots fold up into a very compact size.

My Cot Has a Smelly Odor, What is It?

It is one of two things. Some cots are treated with waterproofing or the odor may be from the manufacturing process. If this is the case, let your cot air out unfolded. The odor should dissipate within a few hours. The second thing that can cause odor on a cot is if it was folded up and stored away while damp. It may have developed mold or mildew. If this is the case, thoroughly clean the area with mild detergent with a soft cloth or sponge, and dry thoroughly.

Camping Cot FAQ's

Q: Can I sit on the side rails of my cot?

A: It is not recommended because many camp cots are folded down by sitting on the rails or exerting pressure on them. Even though they are strong and reinforced, placing all your weight on them can weaken the frame or cause the metal to bend or bow.

Q: What are the advantages of a having a cot?

A: They offer an instant bed whenever and wherever you need one. They're lightweight, easy to transport and set up in a few minutes or less.

Q: How easy will my camping cot be to assemble?

A:It depends on the style you buy. Most camp cots are easily setup by unfolding the legs, stretching them out and affixing the end bars.

Q: What material are they made from and which one should I choose?

A: Camp cots come in a range of materials from polyester blends to heavy duty canvas. My preference is canvas, but the other materials are also strong and durable. They are also lighter, so this is a matter of personal preference.

Q: Will it fit in my tent?

A: Tents and camp cots are each made in a variety of sizes and shapes. It will fit in your tent if you take the measurements of your tent first, then purchase the size camp cot that will fit inside.

Q: How can I assess how much comfort and support a cot will give?

A: One of the best ways is to read the details about the materials used, along with the specifics about design and construction. Next, read through the customer reviews to find out what others have to say about the model you're considering.

Q: Can I use one for daily use at home?

A: Yes, you can. They are indoor/outdoor and can be used daily practically anywhere.

Q: Why carrying a cot on a backpacking tour?

A: A cot can make it far more comfortable to sleep. Some cots are made to be lightweight so they are easy to carry. Most cots fold up into an extremely compact size.

Q: What is a collapsible camping cot?

The summer sun can make an outdoor gathering hot and miserable. The best solution is to set up an outdoor canopy. This is essential equipment for people who enjoy outdoor barbecues, going to the beach or any other activities that require being out in the open sunlight. Our guide will show you how to set up a canopy by yourself, and give you some useful tips to make your summertime fun safer and more enjoyable.

What Is A Canopy Tent?

A canopy tent is a portable gazebo or frame tent that provides shelter from the elements by providing an overhead covering. They come in a variety of sizes from small to very large, ranging from 5' x 5' to 20' x 10'. They are portable when folded down which makes it easier to transport them from one location to another. Most of these tents are waterproof, which adds protection from rain and small sized hail. Canopy tents are most often used for shade at a variety of events including flea markets, barbecues, sporting events, weddings and beach parties.

Canopy Tent Setup Instructions

If you have the instructions that came with your canopy tent, read these first. If not, here is how to set the canopy up by yourself.

Step 1: Preparation

Most canopies are stored in a case to protect them from damage and make transporting them more convenient. Begin by taking all parts out of the box or case. Lay everything out to make sure that you have all components. Set the fabric roof aside. laying it flat so any wrinkles will fall out while you're taking care of step 2.

Step 2: Setup the canopy legs

On a flat, or fairly flat surface, begin by pulling the legs apart. If you are working with an accordion type frame, you should start on an end and pull until the legs begin to unfold. Make sure to allow for a minimum of 12 inches between each leg. Do not raise the leg height yet.

Step 3: Add the roof

Place the roof or top material on the frame of the canopy. Fully connect the top material to the frame. Some canopy tents use tie downs, snaps or velcro for securing. Once you have the top connected, it's time to pull the legs further apart until they are fully extended.

Step 4: Secure the inside hardware

Canopy tent frames come with brackets on the inside of the frame that make it stable and keep the roof tight and secured. Go under the canopy and push upwards at the center point of the frame. Raise the frame in this manner. Next, go to each leg and push the bracket upwards until you hear the click of the locking button.

Step 5:Raise the legs

Now it's time to raise the legs. You will notice that there are between four to six holes on each leg. These are for adjusting the canopy to the desired height. To raise the canopy height, simply push up on a leg. Repeat this with each of the legs until the tent is the height you want. A spring placed in each leg slides into the hole to hold it firmly in place. Some models use clips that you must place in the holes.

Step 6: Secure each canopy leg

To keep the canopy in place, you can either use a stake and rope to tie each leg and secure in place, or you can use a weight, which is placed on the bottom of each leg. Either option will work for preventing the canopy from moving, but I prefer the weight because there are no stake ropes to navigate.

Materials Needed

Before you begin the setup, you'll need to decide whether you want to use weights at the bottom of the legs or stakes. Plan on having a weight for each leg, because it will be placed on the inside to keep it stable. If you use stakes, you'll need to have a stake for each leg, a rope to secure each stake, and a small hammer to pound the stake into the ground.

Outdoor Canopy Tents

There are a few different types of outdoor canopy tents. Here is a brief description of each.

Pop up instant canopy tent

A pop up instant canopy tent is the easiest to set up. These are used most often for barbecues, beach excursions, or for outdoor spectator events. You don't need any tools to set them up, one person can assemble them easily and they are usually compact in size for easy carrying.

Shade canopy

Shade canopies are made specifically to protect people from the intensity of the sun. They are made of heavy roof material so the sun's rays won't penetrate. Many shade canopies are not waterproof, because they are intended to provide shade, but some brands offer shade canopies with waterproof treatment. They are available in a wide range of sizes from small to large.

Garden canopy

A garden canopy has multiple uses. These styles may be used for sheltering delicate plants from strong sunlight, or used for a light shelter for barbecues or other outdoor gatherings.

Large canopy

Large canopies are used to provide shelter for large outdoor gatherings. These canopies come in a variety of sizes and styles.

FAQs: About Setting Up Tents

Q: How long does it take to set up a tent?

A: This depends on the size and style of the tent. Instant pop up canopy tents can be set up by one person in just a few minutes. Some of the larger tents can take longer, depending on the size, complexity and how many people are helping with the process.

Q: How do you put up a tent in rainy weather?

A:Wear rain gear and follow the instructions, with one exception...Use a tarp to keep the roof covered while you're setting up the legs and frame. This will help to prevent rainwater from collecting in the fabric until you're ready too put the top on. You may also opt to spread a waterproof tarp down on the ground to avoid the area becoming muddy.

Q: How do I take down my tent?

A: To take down a canopy tent, begin by going under the tent and releasing the brackets that are holding the roof in place. Next, lower the center, then the legs. Undo any outer ties or velcro holding the top in place. Take the roof material down before attempting to fold the legs. Next, fold the legs up to their most compact size, fold the roof material and put away clean and dry in the storage case or box.

Q:How can I keep my tent from being blown away while it’s being set up?

A: You can either use weights at the legs or stake them down quickly. Assemble the canopy tent facing away from the direction of the wind source. This will carry the material to the front for easier assembly than fighting a head on wind.

Tips

Accordion folding canopy tent frames are notorious for finger and hand pinching. Be mindful of this danger while setting up and taking down to avoid a painful pinch. More heavy duty frames can cause serious injury to fingers and hands.

Do not leave the top on your canopy

When not in use, take your canopy tent down and don't forget to remove the top. Leaving the top on during storage makes the material vulnerable to ripping by the metal pieces of the frame and legs.

Always store properly

Storing a canopy tent that is dirty or damp can result in a breakdown of the materials. Fabrics tend to mold, mildew and rot, while metal legs may quickly rust. Before putting your canopy tent in its container for storage, check to make sure that it is clean and dry. Store in a dry place to avoid moisture contamination.

Conclusion

You can set up a canopy tent on your own if you follow a few simple steps. The first time is always the hardest because it is an unfamiliar activity, but after you've done it once, you'll be able to do it faster and easier the next time. Setting up a canopy tent usually doesn't require tools, aside from what's needed to drive tent stakes. The instant pop up canopy tents are the fastest and easiest types to set up.

How to spray tan yourself? This is one of the most popular questions circulating on the internet today. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that spray tanning is the fine art of adding a little color to someone’s skin. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not difficult for anyone to master this innovative form of tanning.

Practice with a Wash-Off Tan

You may feel a little nervous or timid about spray tanning someone. This is a natural feeling that anyone would have to deal with when they don’t have any experience with spray tanning. Fortunately, you can hone your skills with a wash-off tan.

A wash-off tan gives you the golden opportunity to spray tan someone without being concerned about making big mistakes. Ask one of your closest friends if they would be so kind to allow you to practice your sun tanning skills on their skin. After getting their approval, simply apply the wash-off tan to your friend’s skin with a tanning mitt. The wash-off tan can be removed after four hours.

The wash-off tan will build up your confidence and tanning skills. It will also give you a chance to see your mistakes.

Gathering the Proper Tools

How to spray tan yourself? Well, you need to gather the proper tools to get things underway. The process will not go well if you don’t have the proper tools at your disposal.

 -A skin exfoliate

You cannot get things underway if you don’t have a bottle of self tanner. Make sure that you buy self tanner for golden-tone skin. A quality tanning mitt will be used to apply the self tanner to your client’s skin.

The moisturizer plays a vital role in the entire process. It will keep you client’s skin moisturized and supple. The skin exfoliate will remove the dead skin. The dead skin must be removed before the self tanner is applied.

How to spray tan yourself? Well, there are some areas that are hard to reach. This is where you break out spray formula.

You can apply the self tanner on the entire body, but you need a separate tanner for your client’s face. The wet wipes will help you remove excess self tanning solution. Having the proper tools in place is the key to a successful self tanning session.

Exfoliate and Shave Twenty Four Hours before Tanning

As I stated earlier, you must use the exfoliate to remove dead skin before applying the self tanning lotion to your client’s skin. If you don’t, the dead skin will make it very difficult for your client to get an even-toned tan and the self tan will be short lived. Exfoliating dead skin is also a rejuvenating procedure that your client will enjoy.

It’s also critical for you to shave the hair from your client’s skin. It will be challenging for you to apply self tanning lotion to your client’s skin if they are hairy. Besides, can you imagine how your client will look if you don’t remove the hair before applying the self tanning solution?

Please keep in mind that exfoliating and shaving should take place twenty-four hours before the tanning appointment.

Don’t Freak Out if You Make Mistakes

There’s an old saying, “Practice makes perfect.” There’s another old saying you need to keep in mind, “You are only human. You’re entitled to make mistakes.” It’s imperative that you keep you composure while learning the art of spray tanning. Keeping your composure will help you get better.

Don’t take your mistakes personal. Your mistakes will point out the areas that need improvement. View your mistakes as teachers. They will instruct you in the fine art of spray tanning.

Where is The Tan Sprayed?

You should always aim at giving your client an even-toned tan. To do this, you must be generous with the spray tanning product. Don’t be shy when it comes to applying it to your client’s skin. The more, the merrier!

Spray the tanning solution on the following areas: the neck, the mid-section (this includes the chest and stomach, and the legs. Don’t forget that your client has to turn over so that you can spray their back, buttocks, thighs, and calf area.

Why Spray Someone?

It’s not unusual for someone to ask, “How to spray tan yourself?” Why spray someone? This is another popular question asked in tanning forums.

Spraying someone makes the process easier and faster. This is the primary reason why you see so many tanning experts spraying their clients with high quality tanning lotions.
